The Capitals fired 52 shots at Marty Turco Monday night but that wasn’t enough, falling 4-3 in the shootout to the Dallas Stars. Alex Ovechkin broke out of his scoring slump with 2 goals including the game tying goal with less than 4 minutes to play in the 3rd period. The Caps were outcoached. Bruce didn’t or couldn’t make the necessary adjustments, Martin did. He’s taken them to a good level, but maybe he’s not the right coach to take them to greatness. The coach has to adjust the play when the other team’s defense adjusts. He didn’t. The coach has to know when to sit regulars who aren’t performing. (Remember in last year’s playoffs he played an obviously injured Mike Green to the team’s detriment and no one held him accountable.) We also have to question the late season trade and hold McPhee accountable for that. Bad trade.
